What To Do In The Event Of An Accident
WHEN YOU'RE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT:
DO NOT:
· Admit fault, and do not give a signed statement to the claims adjuster representing the other driver's insurance company.
· Make any preliminary agreements with the other party without getting police involvement.
DO:
· Notify the police immediately.
· Obtain names, addresses and license numbers of the persons involved and any witnesses. · Report all facts of the accident to your automobile insurance companies claims department immediately.
Other facts you should obtain:
· Date and time of the accident and the exact location.
· Write down a description of what occurred, what direction each vehicle was traveling in and the lane you were traveling in.
· Write down the speed limit, the speed you were traveling at, the weather and road conditions.
· Obtain the names, addresses, license no. & State of the other driver(s). Also obtain the name, policy number and phone number of their insurance company.
· Write down the year, make and model of the other involved vehicle(s) and the owners of each vehicle.
· Describe the damage to each vehicle.
· Obtain the name, address and phone number of any witnesses.
· Write down the name of the responding police department and officers name and badge number.
· Write down the name of the person receiving a ticket.
· Write down the name, address and phone numbers of any injured person(s), the nature and extent of injuries and whether or not an ambulance was called and if anyone was transported to the hospital.
· Draw a diagram of the accident showing the direction of all cars and the point of the accident. Show street names and location of street signs, stop signs, etc.
