Protect your home and your person... keep your doors locked, even when at home.
Here are some additional safety tips.
· Install and use outside lighting. Burglars like the dark.
· If someone is in your neighborhood that you do not recognize and they are acting suspiciously, contact the police. Let them find and question the individual.
· Never hide a key under your doormat, over your door or anywhere else where it can be anticipated and found. A better choice? Leave a key with a trusted neighbor.
· Do not put your name on your mailbox.
· Don't volunteer your name to an unknown telephone caller and don't give your name on your telephone answering machine.
· Don't announce to strangers that you are going away. Let one or two trusted neighbors know so that they can watch your home and the local police. Don't leave a message on your answering machine that you are not home.
· Support a neighborhood watch program.
· Keep an up-to-date inventory of your possessions. Photos, video recording, a record of purchases and dates, and the serial or identification numbers of appliances. The best place to store these?...a safety deposit box.
· Obtain an engraving tool from your local police or insurance agent or other source. Permanently engrave your identification on your valuables.
· Install an alarm system and place a warning sticker in your window to discourage break-ins.
